Catalina’s Dilemma
I’m sitting here in my hot pink office chair, so thankful for you and the other women who make SOS possible, and I have a quick story to share with you.
I was chatting with Cat, she’s a student at UF with a tangled family (as Susan likes to say).
She was having to make a really hard decision.
Her dad was recently injured and cannot work. Cat's family wants her to come home and be his caretaker. She's torn between her dreams of college and a career and a feeling of obligation to her family. We talked through what each path would look like, in the short term and in the long term. She's going to stay in Gainesville to finish her college journey. While it is hard to prioritize her dreams and her education over her family expectations, she is doing it. One step at a time.
I know this isn’t the type of email you usually get from me. But I think you should get to hear the things that are happening with the Scholars. And you should get to see how you’re helping them in ways both large and small.
I’m thrilled to have a great woman to email about this, and a great group of women who are coming together to help these incredible girls.
