This is what sisterhood looks like
Last night's Induction Dinner was one of those moments that makes you pause and take it all in.
We gathered to celebrate and formally welcome our newest scholars into the SOS sisterhood, surrounded by the strength and love of our current scholars and alumnae. There is something so powerful about being in a room filled with women walking the same path. Some are just beginning, while others are reaching back to guide the way.
I found myself sitting back in complete awe of our current students. Watching how much they have grown since they first entered the program and now seeing them confidently connect with our newest scholars, offering wisdom, reassurance, and yes, even easing those first-year nerves about dorm showers. That full-circle moment never gets old.
And then our scholar speakers took the floor. One shared that before SOS, she had plenty of academic support, but no one to turn to for the personal stuff. No one to really talk to. SOS gave her that. She spoke about going through homesickness, hospital visits, financial struggles, and hard seasons, and never once going through them alone. Her mentor became her person. This community became her foundation.
The other told us that when she first entered this program, she couldn't understand why anyone would believe in her because she didn't yet fully believe in herself. A first-generation student who worried constantly about money, who wondered if a degree was even possible. And then SOS stepped in, little by little, and her confidence grew because people were confident in her first. She reminded every new scholar in that room that it wasn't by chance. Her intelligence, her kindness, and her determination brought her there. She earned it.
I couldn't have said it better myself.
This is what sisterhood looks like. This is why we do what we do.
And none of it happens without you. Every moment of connection in that room, every scholar finding her footing, every young woman reaching back to lift someone else, you made that possible. You are the reason these girls get to stay. Get to dream. Get to become who they were always meant to be.
Thank you for being part of this family.
With gratitude,
Ginny
