History of the Pink Chair

I wanted to share the story behind “The Pink Chair.”

If you know me, this won’t surprise you—I love pink. Naturally, I have a pink desk chair. That simple chair has become the place where I experience the highs and lows of our Scholars’ journeys—stories I’m honored to share with you, the incredible people who make all of this possible.

On Interview Day, one of our applicants, Anna, walked into my office, her face lighting up. “Oh my gosh, you have a pink chair! I knew I’d feel at home here. Every time I get an email from you, I’m going to picture you in your pink chair.”

Anna’s joy was contagious; you couldn’t help but love her. But as she shared her story, I had to remind myself that this was the same young woman who lost both of her parents. She now lives with her two older sisters, working hard to help pay off their family home’s mortgage. She’s pursuing her education because she promised her parents she would. Her strength and resilience are extraordinary, and though her college journey won’t be easy, she has the determination to succeed.

This is where our SOS community comes in. Together, we’ll support Anna in both big and small ways, helping her not just survive but thrive. Watching a Scholar grow into their potential is one of the greatest joys of this work, and I can’t wait to share more updates on Anna’s journey—and the life-changing impact you are making.

With gratitude,

Ginny
